Shooting Incident Near Tennessee State University.

NASHVILLE, TENN. - A tragic shooting incident near Tennessee State University in Nashville has left one person dead and at least nine others injured. The incident took place on Saturday evening, Oct. 12, near Jefferson Street and 27th Avenue North, during an exchange of gunfire between two groups.


The shooting occurred as TSU's homecoming celebration was winding down, with parking lots still full and Jefferson Street recently reopened. Authorities were able to secure the scene just after 6:30 p.m.


The Metro Nashville Police Department has reported that 10 individuals were involved in the shooting, resulting in one fatality. Police are actively searching for the suspect and have urged caution in the area. The injured victims were swiftly transported to local hospitals by both emergency services and private vehicles. The Nashville Fire Department, present for the homecoming parade, provided immediate assistance to the victims.


Officials expressed their disappointment at the event's disruption and stressed the importance of addressing violence in the community. Despite the incident, it was emphasized that the shooting was an isolated event and not a reflection of TSU. Law enforcement officials are currently investigating the incident and interviewing the wounded individuals.


The shooting has cast a shadow over what was meant to be a joyous occasion, prompting statements from city officials and a renewed call for peace and safety in the community.
