Rev. Willie Lee Banks, age 91 of Winchester, passed away on Saturday, November 30, 2024, at Elk River Health and Nursing Center. He was born on May 27, 1933, in Winchester, to the late Gus and Anna (Taylor) Banks. Rev. Banks began his ministry in 1967, pastoring in Franklin County, Coffee County and Lincoln County. In the late 1980’s Rev. Banks and his wife, Geneva, founded Belvidere Baptist Church. Following retirement, he was a devoted member of Huntland Missionary Baptist Church. In his spare time, he cared for the members of his church, watching westerns in the late evenings and playing jokes on family and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Geneva Banks; children, Jerry Banks, Derel Banks, and Wilma Bishop; and brother, Carl Banks. Rev. Banks is survived by his grandchildren, Carl “Bud” (Sonya) Banks, Anthony (Angie) Jones, Jimmy (Kim) Banks, Brandi (David) Banks, Stacy (Jonathan) Rakestraw, Lindy Banks, and Tammy (Matt) Basaraba; fifteen great-grandchildren; numerous great-great-grandchildren; daughters-in-law, Virginia Owens and Diane Banks; siblings, David Banks and Jean Dickey. Visitation will be from 9:00am-11:00am on Tuesday, December 3, 2024, at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home. Funeral Services will follow at 11:00 am in the Chapel of Moore-Cortner Funeral Home with Bro.
