Plans Unveiled for Minor League Baseball Stadium in Murfreesboro

Rendering of possible new stadium

On Wednesday, a group aiming to bring a minor league baseball team to Murfreesboro revealed the initial renderings of the proposed stadium, which would be situated near Cannonsburugh Village. This historical park showcases life in Tennessee from over a century ago and is intricately linked to the city's greenway trail system. The park is currently utilized for educational field trips and as a picturesque wedding venue.

The stadium, as outlined by the team's ownership, is designed to accommodate approximately 3,500 spectators. In addition to hosting professional baseball games, the facility is intended to host concerts, church services, special events, and youth sports activities.

Initial estimates project the cost of the stadium to fall between $25 million and $40 million. However, the proposal is subject to approval by the Murfreesboro City Council.

Mayor Shane McFarland has emphasized that the City of Murfreesboro has not been part of the ongoing discussions regarding the stadium project. In response to queries about funding, the mayor highlighted the city's existing $1.2 billion Capital Improvement plan, focusing on urgent infrastructure requirements. McFarland stressed the need to prioritize essential needs, mentioning ongoing discussions about the Murphy Center sports venue as a potential partnership opportunity.
