Nissan has confirmed that its Smyrna, Canton, Ohio, and Decherd manufacturing facilities will implement job cuts. The company plans to initially seek volunteers for the layoffs and offer severance packages to those who choose to participate.
The largest of the three, the Smyrna plant, employs approximately 5,700 workers, while the Canton plant has around 4,300 employees. The Decherd facility, the smallest group, employs about 1,700 individuals.
Although a Nissan spokesperson did not disclose the specific number of employees affected by this decision, the layoffs follow the company's announcement late last year about a plan to reduce its global workforce by 9,000 jobs.
According to media reports, significant changes are set to take place in Smyrna. One production line will continue operating under a two-shift pattern, while another will consolidate into a single shift starting in April.
At the Franklin County facility, shift patterns will be adjusted gradually across different areas. Some sections will retain their current schedules, while others will see a reduction to one shift. These changes are scheduled to occur between April 2025 and February 2026.
