Jeanette Smith Obituary

September 5, 1931  -  November 18, 2024

Floy Jeanette Rogers Smith of Winchester, Tennessee, passed on to her heavenly home on Monday, November 18, 2024, at 93 years of age.

Jeanette grew up in the Buncombe area of Franklin County that is now under Woods Reservoir. She was the youngest daughter in a family of six children, three boys and three girls, born to Robert Walton and Mary Ollie Armstrong Rogers. Her family had a farm and ran a grocery store in Buncombe, but after the family moved to Estill Springs, Jeanette worked for Kuhn’s Department Store and Blue Front Drug Store in Winchester as a young woman. She married Dale Lenden Smith in 1974, and they moved to Ft. Wayne, Indiana, where they lived for sixteen years. She and Dale moved back to Tennessee after both retiring in 1990 to be close to family.

If you knew Jeanette well, you appreciated her talent for baking. She always contributed the pies and cakes and sweets to every family event and church function; the favorite and most requested was her Hershey chocolate cake! Jeanette and Dale loved to travel, and their favorite pastime was working puzzles – many are framed and hanging throughout their home. They were long-time members of the church of Christ and attended the Estill Springs congregation faithfully.

Jeanette is preceded in death by her husband, Dale, her parents, Robert and Mary Ollie Rogers, brothers, Woodrow Rogers of Winchester, and Jimmy Rogers and Bobby Rogers, both of Sparta, TN, and a sister, Catherine Martinez, of Albuquerque, New Mexico. She is survived by a sister, Talmadge Shenfield, of Ft. Wayne, Indiana, and numerous nieces and nephews who were all her favorites.

Visitation will be held at Watson Funeral Home on Friday, November 22, 2024, from 10:00 am until 12:00 pm. Funeral services will follow in the Roy B. Watson chapel of Watson Funeral Home at 12:00 pm. Interment will follow in Watson Memorial Park. 405 Sharp Springs Road, Winchester, TN 37398, 931-967-2345 www.watsonfhtn.com
