Fred Wayne Hill, age 89, of Winchester, passed away on December 10, 2024 at Gallatin Care Center in Gallatin, Tennessee. Wayne was born in Jackson County, Alabama to the late Ernest and Hazel Hill on January 19, 1935. He graduated from high school in Princeton, Alabama in 1953, and was employed by the General Shoe Corporation. In 1956, he married Treva Ann Couser, and the following year, he enlisted with the Army National Guard. In 1958, he began working in the research laboratory at the Rohm and Haas Company in Huntsville, Alabama. In 1962, he joined the instrument calibration lab at Arnold Air Force Station (later known as AEDC) in Tullahoma, Tennessee, where he worked for thirty-two years. Wayne completed many military training classes with the Army National Guard, including: chemical, biological, and radiological warfare; recruiting and retention; engineering; senior NCO academy; infantry; and military police. He received top secret security clearance during several National Guard training trips to Germany. His military awards included a Commendation Ribbon with First and Second Oak Leaf Cluster; a Certificate of Achievement; and a Scroll of Appreciation. Wayne worked with the Boy Scouts of America for twenty-five years, first as Cub Master, then as Scout Master, and finally as Commissioner of the Elk River District. In recognition of his service, he received the Long Rifle Award and the Silver Beaver Award. Wayne also worked with the Huntland Little League, serving as a manager and then coach of the Harmony Dodgers, and later as the assistant coach for the All-Stars team. Wayne joined the Free and Accepted Masons in 1956 and became a Scottish Rite Mason in 1965. He was active in the local church community for over sixty years. He served as Elder in the Harmony Cumberland Presbyterian Church, and then joined the Winchester Cumberland Presbyterian Church, where he sang in the sanctuary choir and was active in the Joy Club. Later he was a member and sang in the choir at Owens Chapel Cumberland Presbyterian Church. In his final years, he rejoined the Winchester Cumberland Presbyterian Church. After Treva’s death, Wayne married Irene Foster in 2013. He enjoyed travel, musical theater productions, and spending time with his family. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of over 55 years, Treva Hill; his son, Adam Hill; his parents, Ernest and Hazel Hill; and his sister, Esta Mae Cornelison. He leaves behind his second wife, Irene Foster Hill; three sons, Mark Hill (wife Merry) of San Antonio, TX; Dwight Hill (wife Brenda) of Winchester; and Hal Hill (wife Joy) of Belvidere; and six grandchildren: Matthew Hill of San Antonio, TX; Michael Hill (wife Lauren, and son Milo) of Bulverde, Texas; Josh Hill (wife Anna, and sons Jase and Knox) of Estill Springs; Zac Hill (wife Becky, and son Nathan) of Winchester; Bethany Hill of Winchester, and Haley Stines (husband Logan) of Belvidere. Visitation with the family will be held on Monday. December 16, 2024, at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, December 17, 2024, at 11:00am at Moore Cortner Funeral Home with Rev. Dr. Michael Clark. Interment to immediately follow at Franklin Memorial Gardens.
