Franklin County Library Receives Technology Grant

Franklin County Library secures technology grant.

The Franklin County Library has secured a technology grant of $1,757 to enhance its technological capabilities. This grant will cover the costs of desktops, software, monitors, and a barcode scanner, providing a boost to the library's resources.

The announcement of this grant was made by Tennessee Secretary of State Tre Hargett, State Sen. Janice Bowling, R-Tullahoma, and State Rep. Iris Rudder, R-Winchester, in a recent press release. Sen. Bowling stressed the significance of these funds in modernizing library technology, underlining the vital role that libraries play in offering free access to knowledge.

Managed at the state level by the Tennessee State Library & Archives, under the Secretary of State’s Office, these grants for technology are part of the Library Services and Technology Act. Administered federally by the Institute of Museum and Library Services, they necessitate local matching funds.

Rep. Rudder highlighted the importance of public libraries in providing opportunities for lifelong learning and expressed confidence that these grants will empower local libraries to continue delivering top-notch programs and services to our community. This year, a total of $373,869 in technology grant funding was allocated to 98 libraries across the state for the acquisition or upgrade of computers, software, and other electronic devices.

Secretary Hargett extended his gratitude to Sen. Bowling and Rep. Rudder for their unwavering support of local libraries, acknowledging that technological advancements in libraries cater to the specific needs of community members. He commended their collaboration, commitment, and advocacy for the libraries in Tennessee.
