Early Voting Going Very Well in Franklin County

Early Voting totals for Franklin County are nearing 5,000, which is ahead of the pace in 2020.

The early voting period for the upcoming state and federal general election on Nov. 5 will continue until Oct. 31 at the Election Commission office in the Franklin County Annex Building. Voters can cast their ballots between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. on weekdays and from 8 a.m. to noon on the two Saturdays during the early voting period. Those who opt not to vote early must visit their assigned precincts from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Election Day.

Local County Commission Seats Up for Grabs

Aside from the state and federal candidates, Franklin County residents will also be selecting candidates for two vacant County Commission seats. In District 7, Seat A, Alan Clark, Sam Davidson, and Chris Hawkersmith are vying for the position left vacant by David Eldridge, who moved out of the district. Eldridge is running unopposed in District 1 and is temporarily filling the District 1, Seat A commissioner role until the election on Nov. 5.

Another vacancy arose when District 7, Seat B Commissioner Grant Benere resigned due to relocating outside the district. The commission accepted his resignation on Sept. 16, leaving District 7 without representation until the election on Nov. 5.

Commission to Select Replacement for Vacant Seat

County Mayor Chris Guess mentioned that Benere's resignation occurred too late to be included on the Nov. 5 ballot. Therefore, the commission will appoint his replacement during its Nov. 25 meeting to ensure full representation for District 7.
