1925-2004
Betty Jane Henninger passed from this life Friday, September 27, 2024, at Vanderbilt Harton Hospital in Tullahoma, Tennessee. She was ninety-nine.
Born on the Fourth of July, 1925 in Cincinnati, Ohio to Winfield and Sylvia Stacey, Betty moved to Tullahoma in support of her husband, Allen D. Henninger, in 1955. She was a loving wife and mother of two sons, Allen Stacey Henninger and David Scott Henninger.
A lifelong member of the First Presbyterian Church in Tullahoma, Betty served as an elder, librarian, Sunday school teacher and women’s club member. She was a Cub Scout den leader, a board member of the Tullahoma Day Care & Learning Center, a Republican Woman, a three-time US census taker, and a poll worker for many elections. Betty and Al enjoyed flying as members of the local Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) chapter, where Betty was known as the “chili queen.” She enjoyed golf and aqua aerobic classes with friends. She also studied painting and pottery at Motlow. Betty was an active member of the Tullahoma Heirloom Quilting Guild and was even a blue-ribbon award winner. Her work has been featured at Dollywood and numerous Coffee County Fairs.
Betty’s legacy includes many of these beautiful, handcrafted pieces that she gifted to loved ones over the years. Her family will surely remember their “GG” fondly, just as she instructed: “when it’s cold outside, just snuggle up under your quilt and think of me.”
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Winfield and Sylvia Stacey, husband, Allen D. Henninger, twin brother, Winfield G. Stacey, brothers Don, Bob, Jack and Dan, sister, Ruth Fisher and daughter-in-law, Susan Trenchi Henninger.
Betty is survived by her two sons: Allen S. Henninger and David S. Henninger (Dori), brother, Dan Stacy, five grandchildren: Bess Warren (Jones), Erik Henninger (Alison), Christopher Henninger (Camille), Rebecca Behrendorff (Tim), Andrew Henninger (Julie), and twelve great-grandchildren: Ellie Claire Warren, Archer Warren, Graham Henninger, Emily Henninger, Addison Henninger, Kensley Henninger, Makayla Henninger, Payton Behrendorff, Jayden Behrendorff, Jacob Henninger, Charlie Henninger, and Clare Henninger.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, November 2, 2024, at 11:00 AM at the First Presbyterian Church, located at 204 East Grundy Street in Tullahoma with Rev. Steven Yates officiating. Burial will be at 2:00 PM at Oakwood Cemetery in Tullahoma.
