Apparent Fake Kidnapping and Stolen Vehicles Sends Man to Jail

On October 27, the Grundy County Sheriff’s Office swiftly responded to a distress call on Highway 50 in Altamont. The call was made by Josh Webb, claiming he had been kidnapped in Memphis, forced into the trunk of a black car, and miraculously managed to escape upon reaching Grundy County.

Upon arrival, deputies discovered a black car stuck in a wooded area with its engine still in reverse gear. Following a thorough investigation of the scene, a search and rescue team was dispatched. Clothing found along a trail leading into the woods added to the mystery.

As the search intensified, a black Tahoe was reported stolen, with a loaded firearm inside, presumably taken by Webb. Although the Tahoe was later recovered, Webb's escapades continued.

Subsequently, Webb allegedly stole a vehicle from Monteagle, which was eventually found in Cordell, GA. Another vehicle taken from Cordell, GA was located in Grundy County. Webb's spree culminated in his apprehension in Paducah, Kentucky, after a dramatic chase involving the stolen vehicle from Grundy County. Notably, Webb was found in possession of the firearm pilfered from the Tahoe.

Josh Webb now faces a slew of charges across multiple states, including Kentucky, Tennessee, and possibly Georgia, marking an end to his cross-state crime spree.
