Agreement Between Blue Cross Blue Shield and Vanderbilt University Medical Center Affects Medicare Advantage Members

Medicare Advantage members will no longer have access to in-network services at Harton Hospital after the end of the year.

In a recent development, an agreement reached in the summer between Blue Cross Blue Shield of Tennessee, Vanderbilt University Medical Center, and Harton Hospital in Tullahoma has raised concerns for Medicare Advantage members. The agreement aimed to ensure patients could still benefit from in-network prices; however, it excluded Medicare Advantage members from this benefit.

Both Blue Cross Blue Shield and VUMC have confirmed that Medicare Advantage members will no longer have access to in-network services after the end of the year. Statements released by the organizations indicated that the decision was made mutually.

The exact number of affected patients remains unknown at this time, leaving many in the community wondering about the implications of this change in network coverage.
